California Spinal Cord Injury & Paralysis Lawyers

You can sustain many different types of personal injuries during an accident, but of all of them, spinal cord injuries and paralysis are some of the most devastating. Not all spinal cord injuries result in a personal injury lawsuit but there are times when accident victims can hold negligent parties liable for paying monetary damages. The financial compensation you receive after an accident can never make your injuries go away, but it can help offset the costs of your medical treatment, lost income, and more. Our California spinal cord injury and paralysis lawyers can help you claim the full settlement to which you are entitled. At Burris, Nisenbaum, Curry & Lacy, we are here to help.

The spine is divided into different sections and the location of your injury will largely determine the impact it will have on your mobility, and your life. The different types of spinal cord and paralysis injuries are as follows:

  • Cervical injuries: The cervical section of the spine is located at the very top, meaning an injury in this area is the most severe type. Every area of the body below the injury is affected and as such, it could result in total paralysis below the neck.
  • Thoracic injuries: The rib cage protects the thoracic section of the spine and so, injuries to this area of the spine are not as common. Still, this type of injury can still occur and when it does, a person may lose sensation and mobility in their legs, although paralysis of the arms and hands does not usually occur.
  • Lumbar injuries: Lumbar spinal cord injuries occur lower in the spinal column, meaning the lower body is left paralyzed while the arms, hands, and shoulders are not usually affected.
  • Sacral injuries: The sacral section of the spine is the lowest, but it can still result in paralysis. A sacral injury can affect bladder and bowel function, and can cause sexual dysfunction.

It is possible to file a personal injury claim after sustaining a spinal cord injury due to someone else’s negligence. However, these claims are vastly different from other types of personal injury claims.

Spinal cord injuries are typically much more severe than other types of injuries, particularly when they result in paralysis. By their very nature, spinal cord injury claims present many challenges that are not present in other personal injury claims. A claim involving a spinal cord injury requires a thorough knowledge of both legal and medical issues. You must also reach a certain level of medical improvement before filing a claim. Our California spinal cord injury and paralysis lawyers can help you overcome these challenges so you claim the full damages you are entitled to.

If you have been hurt due to someone else’s negligence, our California spinal cord injury and paralysis lawyers at Burris, Nisenbaum, Curry & Lacy, can help you obtain the full and fair settlement you deserve.
